ABOUT THE ARTIST: Gruzinsky Petr Nikolaevich - was born on December 19, 1837 in Kursk, Russia. in 1851 he entered the Academy of Arts. In 1860 he was awarded the Small Gold Medal for the "Gypsy Camp" program and in 1862 the Big Gold Medal for the painting "The Last Assault of Gunib". In 1863, Peter Gruzinsky, as a boarder of the Academy of Arts, went abroad for six years. He spent these years in Germany, Italy, France. In 1872, the artist received the title of academician for the painting "Abandonment of the aul by the mountaineers". A year later, this painting was exhibited at the World Exhibition in Vienna, and in 1882 - at the All-Russian Exhibition in Moscow. In 1889, Gruzinsky painted a battle-historical picture "The capture of the convoy of Marshal Davout by the Life Guards Uhlan regiment near Krasnoye on November 5, 1812".
Among the main works: paintings on military themes - "Capture of Gunib in the Caucasus in 1859" (1862), "Picket of the Zouaves on maneuvers in France" (1864), "Convoy of the Circassians" (1871), "Abandonment of auls by the mountaineers when Russian troops approach" (1872), "Bivouac of cavalry guards" (1879), "Capture of the convoy of Marshal Davout of the Life Guards regiment under the Red on November 5, 1812" (1889), "The order chieftain on the road" (1892); paintings on the themes of Russian folk life - "Postal triad" (1859), "Postman" (1861), "Meeting of newlyweds returning from church" (1876), "Triad in a blizzard" (1881), "Maslenitsa" (1889); a series of landscapes. Author of numerous drawings and watercolors. Lived and worked in the city of St. Petersburg. The artist died in 1892.
