Rene Magritte "Empire of Light"

“I got an idea that day and night exist together, they are one. This is reasonable, or at least corresponds to our knowledge: in the world, night always exists simultaneously with day. Just as some people feel sadness at the same time as others feel happiness, ”explained Rene Magritte.
The key element of his "Empire of Light" was a quiet street immersed in darkness, very similar to the Rue de Essgem in Brussels, where the artist lived. A lone lantern illuminates the stage like a lighthouse, with only a few windows faintly glowing from within. However, this serene nighttime landscape is crowned by a day-sunlit sky, over which white clouds drift.
